On October 8, we presented violins to 85 Chat Perché preschoolers in the Visages du Monde amphitheater as their proud parents looked on.
Three local officials attended the ceremony to express their strong support for the project: Val d’Oise Senator Arnaud Bazin (watch his remarks in French); Cergy Mayor Jean-Paul Jeandon (watch his remarks in French); and Marie-Ange Tomi, the French Education Ministry’s Deputy Academic Director for Val d’Oise (watch her remarks in French).
A series of speakers reviewed the purpose and core principles of the project, introduced the violin teachers and described the weekly schedule of lessons for participating children.
After the speeches, the children reacted with awe and delight as each was presented with a violin—a symbolic act that marked the beginning of a multi-year adventure for these four- and five-year-olds.
After the presentation ceremony, the violin teachers treated everyone to a musical performance. In a wink to the students, they even played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on child-sized violins!
The event ended with a buffet and surprise treats for the children—cotton candy, crepes and chocolate fountains—that were a hit with young and old alike.
After their gourmet feast, our little violinists went home, happy and ready for a successful year.
